A website project designed to showcase artist Yorka Desreumaux’s work through a clean, elegant and serene visual style.
Designing Around the Artwork
The design process began with understanding Yorka's artistic vision and the atmosphere she wanted her portfolio to convey. Together, we explored how a clean and minimalist layout could support the dreamy and melancholic character of her paintings. Every design choice, from typography to spacing and colour, was carefully considered to create a calm digital space where the artwork could take centre stage.
Created as part of my Web Design studies at KISP, this portfolio website was designed for Ghent-based artist Yorka Desreumaux. Her work is characterised by dreamy imagery, soft textures and a melancholic atmosphere, which became the starting point for the visual concept of the website.
The design focuses on simplicity and clarity, allowing the artwork to remain central while subtly reflecting Yorka's artistic identity. A restrained colour palette, careful typography choices and generous white space create a calm browsing experience that mirrors the mood of her paintings.
Throughout the project, special attention was given to balancing aesthetics and usability, resulting in a portfolio that showcases the artist's work in a professional yet personal way.
